New National Park in My Area!
I was walking to the coffee shop this morning when I cam across a new sign.

Yes, that is correct the lot behind the sign is now a national park. The sign they put up this morning made it official.

This is a better view of the dirt lot with the tree in, This is where the local homeless like to sleep. Now that it is a national park I wonder if they will need a camping permit?

This lot has been boarded up for 11 years. I remember when it didn't have the fence. It was dangerous place where drug dealers and gangs used to hang out. I was happy when the fence came up because it made the neighborhood safer. Although it was kind of sad that it became unaccessible to everyone in the neighborhood. now that it is a National Park I am sure that will all change.

They might even clean it up.

Or fix the benches.

At first I thought this was funny. I was also unclear as to why the government would do this. Turns out it is a private artist trying to "make a statement." The more I thought about it the angrier I got. In my neighborhood we have very real problems of drugs, homelessness, and prostitution. These two areas that were "reclaimed" as places of public thought and creativity have been at the center of the issues for a long time.

Swooping in and throwing a sign over a dilapidated city park claiming it as an intellectual bastion undermines the issues to the people that live around here. Don't patronize us by putting up a stupid sign claiming that this is a national park. Yellowstone is a national park. Yosemite is a national park. This is an eyesore.
